Maryam Bukar Hassan, also known as Alhanislam is a globally recognized performance poet, advocate and creative consultant, renowned for blending her art with activism to inspire change. Her powerful voice addresses key issues such as gender equality, education, healthcare, and peacebuilding, making her a prominent figure in global advocacy.
In 2022, she released her debut album Layers, which explored themes of strength in femininity, culture, motherhood, and self-love, highlighting her versatility as an artist. This project highlighted her multifaceted nature, showcasing her ability to weave profound narratives through spoken word and Music. In 2025, She was featured on the 5ive Album by renowned afro-beats artist, Davido. She has showcased her artistry on prominent global stages, performing at events such as the Women’s Global Meeting Forum in Paris, COP 28 in the UAE, the UN SDG Action Awards in Rome, United Nations Headquarters in New York, and multiple TEDx events to name a few.
As a campaign coordinator for Change.org, Alhanislam has spearheaded movements that drive social change and policy reform. Her initiative, True My Voice, which empowers young African Storytellers, was a finalist at the 2024 UN SDG Awards.
She has collaborated with global institutions such as the African Union, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Global Citizen, and various UN agencies, amplifying her impact.
